Dismantling a Porsche 930
March 22, 2005
When I was doing hot laps at Brainerd International Raceway last year, I hear a very load "exhaust" noise from the mule with a hammering sound. My suspicions were correct when I found a broken head stud. I purchased a set of ARPs off Ebay and installed them on the engine. I'm putting the engine back together and upgrading the suspension using equipment I got from Smart Racing Products. Here are a few pictures of my progress.

Pretty much just a tub with a few rears suspension parts. Because of a bad rear
bearing, I had to rebuild the right rear hub. I still need to torque down the castle
nut to over 200 ft-lbs.

The rear of the garage showing the front suspension in the background and the engine on
the stand..

Exhaust parts being cleaned and prepped to go back on the car. I will be replacing
the wastegate with a Tial and the muffler with a GHL.

The short block is back together and now I'm starting to get the engine ready to go back
into the car. Look at the nice shinny new head studs.

The culprit, a broken head stud.

I dropped the front end and removed the Bilstein inserts. I finally removed the pins
using a power chisel with a drift.

The gas tank and front suspension are on the floor. This will give me plenty of room
to install my new Smart Racing Products Anti Roll Bars.

I'm using a cut off air tool to trim away the old rusted heater boxes. You have to
be careful not to cut the exhaust itself.

Stripping away the heater box from the exhaust.

Evo 2 seats in a stripped interior. I used paint from PaintScratch to spray paint
the interior. I intend on getting RS style door skins.

The rollbar was also painted to match the interior.

Sparco wheel. The leather on the dash is showing it's age with some warping a
shrinking.
